Water polo is an aquatic team sport. It is popular in many countries around the world, notably Europe (particularly in Hungary, Greece, Italy, Russia, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro), The United States, Canada and Australia. Men's water polo was the first Olympic team sport, introduced at the 1900 games in Paris, however, Women's water polo wasn’t introduced as an Olympic sport until the 2000 games in Sydney. In 1984, a Monash University student by the name Greg Wallace decided to get a group of players together to play water polo socially. Today, the 2009/2010 season marks the 25th anniversary of the Monash University Water Polo club. We now have 150+ members across 14 teams, ranging from u/12s up to State League 1 Men and Women. We sent a Monash team to the U16s club nationals. This is the first time in history that Monash Uni has been in a position to be represented on the national club front. Also, as a University based club, we field teams in official Australian Universities Sports Federation competitions (for students only). We welcome members of all standards, experience and background. We train at the Doug Ellis Pool located on Campus at Monash University in Clayton. The University is easily accessible via the Monash Freeway (part of Citylink) from Melbourne and all suburbs. We also have a history of attracting players from all over the world to play for us. Past players have come from Ireland, the U.K., Canada, the U.S., South Africa, Sweden, Norway, Holland and Israel. We welcome both new and experienced players whether they are from Melbourne, or anywhere else in the World. |
